Snail Soup

To make snail soup you will need:

A couple of old leaves of lettuce, about 60 millilitres of water, and either a fork to mash it or an electronic blender. Please ask a grown up to use the blender if that is what you are using. You need to make sure your soup is quite thick. Snails can drown very easily.

Take a glass or plastic container - it could even be a large jam jar - and paint the inside with the soup. Place your snail gently into the container and watch them munching up their delicious soup. Yum!

Please make sure that you release your snails back into their natural habitat after you have watched them for a while. But if you need to keep them over night, then make sure they have a spacious home with air holes, and some lovely leaves and bits of grass to hide in.

Please email your photographs of snails that you have caught to Mrs Harrison and Mrs Heslop. We will be making an online gallery of animals we have spotted over the next few weeks.

Don’t worry if you haven’t been able to find any snails, we would love it if you could try drawing a picture of a snail and email it in to Mrs Harrison and Mrs Heslop. Be as imaginative as you can - what kind of shell will you give your snail?
