Communication and language is fundamental to everything we do in the Nursery. The staff spend the whole session working with the children to model language and extend vocabulary.
The children are learning new words daily and are constantly extending their understanding of spoken language. Children who have not spoken English before develop very quickly through playing alongside their peers and listening to conversations. Staff make a point of narrating their play to ensure the children hear key vocabulary in English.
Snack time is a really important part of the day in Nursery. The children sit with a member of staff at the table and are encouraged to ask for the fruit they would like using good manners. The teacher will encourage social communication with the group. The children quickly become involved in conversations covering a very wide variety of topics. Today for example all the fruit came to life and the bananas were talking to each other and having a drink of milk. Children enjoy sharing news from home too such as talking about members of their family or a birthday party.
