    Job Description: Primary Music Teacher

    for September 2025 start

    Location: Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School, St Marks Road, Teddington, TW11 9DD

    Part-time, permanent basis (1 day a week or 1 1/2 days a week)

    Salary: depending on experience

    Applications due: Tuesday 27th May 2025

    Interview date: Thursday 5th June  2025

    The main duties of this post include:

    • Teach music to primary students, inspiring a love for music
    • Run the school choir
    • Option for instrumental lessons in ukulele and recorders.
    • Proficiency in piano is desirable to accompany the classes/school on the piano at Assembly and school Masses

    Responsibilities:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging music lessons in accordance with the National Curriculum
    • Run the school choir and coordinate performances
    • Offer instrumental lessons in ukulele and recorders if possible
    • Collaborate with staff to integrate music into the wider curriculum
    • Maintain a positive and safe learning environment
    • Take responsibility for the purchase and organisation of Music resources.
    • Support the Catholic Ethos of the school

    Person Specification:

    • Knowledge of the updated National Curriculum requirements for Music
    • Appreciation of how Music can be used with in the National Curriculum.
    • To increase the variety of musical instruments so that the children have exposure to a range of instrumental enrichment including voice
    • Ability to play the piano and other musical instruments to a high standard desirable
    • Inclusive teaching practice so that children with SEND also access the music curriculum

    Qualifications and Training:

    • Qualified teacher status is desirable or Specialist Teacher
    • Evidence of professional development in music education

    Experience:

    • Experience teaching music in a primary school setting
    • Experience running a choir or music group

    Skills and Knowledge:

    • Good knowledge of music curriculum and teaching strategies
    • Ability to play multiple musical instruments, particularly piano desirable
    • Strong communication and organisational skills
    • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection

    Personal Qualities:

    • Enthusiastic and passionate about music education
    • Ability to inspire and motivate students
    • Commitment to the school’s ethos and values
