Governance at Sacred Heart
Introduction
The Governors at Sacred Heart, all volunteers, are responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective running of the school. The needs of the children are always a priority in decision-making. Governors appoint senior staff members and decide how best to use the school budget and administer the School Building Fund. Governors receive on-going training which helps them to make informed decisions.
The role of the Governing Body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:
- Set the vision and strategic direction for the school
- Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Ensure financial resources are spent well
There are termly full Governing Body meetings, and regular committee meetings. Parents are welcome to raise issues for consideration at these meetings.
At Sacred Heart, the Governing Body consists of:
- Foundation Governors
- Parent Governors
- One Local Authority Governor
- One Staff Governor
- Headteacher
Additionally, the Governing Body encourages diversity, welcomes interest in from individuals who wish to join and is open to inviting Associate Members to join the board, to support with governance at committee level. For more information, please see 'The Instrument of Governance' below.
Instrument of Governance
Governors are appointed for a term of four years. Parent Governors are elected by parents with children at the school while Foundation Governors are appointed by the Diocese of Westminster. The LA Governor is a volunteer from the local community appointed by the Local Authority.
Each Governor is a member of at least one committee, which are:
- Admissions
- Finance, Premises and Personnel (FP&P)
- Quality of Education (QE)
- Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development (BAPD)
