National Assessments

School performance measures are recorded at four different points within schools. These are:

  • Early Years 'Good Level of Development' measure at the end of the Reception Year
  • Phonics Screening measure at the end of Year 1
  • Key Stage 1 (KS1) Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) at the end of Year 2
  • Key Stage 2 (KS2) Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) at the end of Year 6

In the academic year, 2015/16, the Statutory Assessment Test (SATs) for England changed in format and expectation for both KS1 and KS2. The expectation of  6/7 and 10/11 year old's was increased alongside the demands of the curriculum. Nationally, this increased expectation was clearly shown in the drop in attainment across all measures in these two key stages.
