Following the outbreak of World War 2, Year 6 were evacuated this week to Lincolnsfield due to the potential impact of the war on their lives. While away, the pupils have experienced life in a 1940s home, school in the 1940s (I loved the sound of Miss Collins and will be looking to employ her!), learnt how a mangle works, experienced a Morrison shelter and an Andersen shelter, listened to music on a gramophone, learnt about bathing in the 1940s, Dug for Victory, learnt about rationing and so much more. They met a gentleman who was evacuated age 6 and heard all about his experiences…he lived off sardines for dinner every night for 9 months! They also learnt how one could be imprisoned for using more than their rationed amount of sugar! It has been an amazing trip – truly immersive and a great learning opportunity.
